TRDTGC – Chapter 43

The flower boat was very big, two stories high.

Carved railings and painted parts made the boat look extravagant. The pavilions were wide with decorative ledgers. The lights installed were brightly lit, and you can vaguely hear an amazing singing voice from what could be a beautiful singer, so much so that people might as well imagine the woman’s charming smile.

Standing on the ship tower, you can overlook the entire moat shrouded in mist.

Two handsome teenagers were waiting at the entrance of the flower boat, and when they saw Chunying and her party stepping out of the greenery area, they rushed to greet them.

“Sister Chunying.” One of the teenagers had a small red mole at the end of his eye, his gaze passed over Chunying and landed on Jiang Changning and the rest of the group and he was stunned.

Definitely, these are people from fairy tales.

“Don’t offend the distinguished guests.” Chunying frowned slightly and reprimanded him.

The young man came to his senses and welcomed Jiang Changning and others onto the boat with a red face.

Entering the flower boat, they saw a small walk-in area covered by crystal curtains that hangs like veils.

Red wine, clattering cups, sparkling bottles, emerald dishes. The dishes were a sight to see. The wine was like a spring river, the guqin kept playing, and the bells were tinkling.

Surrounded by bell-like flowers, the area was pure white, with a translucent luster like bones, surrounded by layers of pearls, and clusters of brocade.

The crystal bead curtain meanders and pours down. Behind the curtain, someone was playing the piano with ease, creating a sound that seamlessly danced between the fingertips.

When the song finished, they scattered the silk flower in the air. As the light shone through them, the flowers looked like floating and swirling snow at the same time reflecting the beautiful faces of the beauties.

A lantern hangs high in the middle of the building. It is square, and small flower-shaped hollows were carved out on each side. The texture of the petals was clear and looked lifelike through the candlelight. There are two green dragons, opening their mouths, engraved on the handle, which is different from the regular design that noble people were familiar with in the past. This new design looked very vibrant and beautiful.

Master Mu usually embodies the texture of sculptures in a complex and complicated way with the finishing touch of each stroke showing full vitality. This lantern was the creation of his life, and it could be called a masterpiece and should be handed down from generation to generation.

Hong Xing followed Jiang Changning to the point of being speechless in amazement. Fearing that she would lose her manners outside, she held back her excitement.

Jiang Luo rushed up from behind, stood under the lantern to look at it, and let out a few exclamations sincerely.

Qin Huaisu stood by Jiang Changning’s side and the people next to him showed a more or less surprised but respectful expression. Meanwhile, Jiang Changning remained stunned, so he turned his head to peek at her curiously.

Standing not far from the lantern, Jiang Changning could just see the top of the lantern from a certain distance but she saw the little blue dragon on the handle baring its teeth and claws. Although it was just a statue, his eyes showed a trace of the creator’s inner respect for the creature.

Jiang Luo turned her head to catch a glimpse of Jiang Changning’s expression and deliberately tried to make her unhappy: “This sticky lantern is truly a masterpiece of Master Mu. I like it very much after just one look. If I got it, I would hang it in my room every day. You will be very happy to see it too.” Saying that, she lowered her head sadly towards Gu Xiujing’s direction.

Gu Xiujing felt guilty, despite his status as a son of the Duke’s Mansion, he didn’t even buy any lantern for a woman he likes, so he said, “Miss Chunying, I wonder if this lantern can be sold to the Duke’s Mansion?” Before Chunying could speak, Shen Dong just sneered.

He had seen this lamp early in the morning, and he didn’t have much interest in the lantern but now he didn’t feel like wanting to fulfill Gu Xiujing’s wish.

Chunying understood instantly and turned around. She said: “I’m sorry, Mr. Gu, when Master Mu entrusted this lamp, he specifically asked not to sell it in the market. This lamp incorporates the master’s hard work, and it is to be given to someone who is destined to receive it.”

Chunying asked someone to put down the lantern, and she walked over with another girl to let everyone have a closer look, and continued: “The master had prepared two questions, for the one who managed to answer the question shall be the owner of this lantern.”

“What are the questions?” Gu Xiujing asked.

Chunying passed the candles one by one in front of everyone, turned around and walked to the front.

“There are two questions prepared. The first question is about guessing lantern riddles just like the old tradition. The second question is about shooting skills. If someone can shoot through the flying leaf hanging in the corridor and hit the bull’s eye, that person is the winner.” Chunying pointed her finger at an archery target that was almost fifty paces away. A knuckle-sized green leaf hung up under her command.

Jiang Changning looked at the archery target, and she claimed that she could do the first riddle. If it was a simple archery, she would have no problem with the accuracy, but the distance force them to pass through the green leaves, so her arm strength was still lacking.

Thinking about how she might miss the lantern, Jiang Changning’s expression darkened.

Qin Huaisu’s gaze stayed on Jiang Changning’s face and easily understood what she was thinking. So he took a step forward: “This king wants to try too.”

Shen Dong followed suit, “This general too.”

Jiang Luo had already stood at Gu Xiujing’s side, covered by her robe, as she gently shook Gu Xiujing’s hand, looking expectant.

Gu Xiujing was a little hesitant at first. Although he mastered the six arts of a gentleman, he was still at a disadvantage compared to the other two contestants because he does not know any martial arts, but he is somewhat confident about lantern riddles.

He nodded slightly, and his subordinates patted Jiang Luo reassuringly, and stepped forward: “Miss Chunying, let’s start off with the question.”

“Okay, the first question: a tall building was made of a single wood, without tiles or bricks, people can walk under water, it’s far superior to water.”

Everyone was still thinking, but Jiang Changning already had an answer.

“Is it wooden bridge?” Shen Dong hesitated.

Chunying bent her lips, shook her head and said, “No.”

Gu Xiujing and Qin Huaisu answered at the same time, “It’s an umbrella.”

Chunying nodded, “It’s an umbrella.”

Jiang Changning’s mind: The answer in my heart was confirmed, and my expression stretched.

“Ah—” Hong Xing was still guessing in her heart, and suddenly realized when she heard the answer.

Gu Yan followed behind Jiang Luo, the two looked confused.

The first question was solved, and a group of people followed Chun Ying’s footsteps to the corridor.

The flower boats are on the lake, and the promenade is the place to enjoy the scenery. The evening wind blows, and the carved railings and painted structure were reflected on the water, which was full of brilliance.

The green leaves tied by a thin rope were blowing with the wind, making it harder to hit the bull’s eye through it.

This was Chunying’s idea as she prepared this question for Shen Dong. In her heart, no one can beat General Shen when it comes to archery.

“Each person has three arrows. The one who completes all the conditions and hits the target wins, and the one who succeeds in both questions wins the lantern. Who will come first?”

When it comes to archery, Shen Dong was naturally confident and took the lead. “I’ll come first.”

The rest had no objection.

Shen Dong was skillful, he stood at the designated place and stretched out his bow to shoot an arrow. The evening wind blew his long hair, and his tall and straight figure made Chunying who was standing not far away secretly blush.

The arrow pierced through the air, through the swaying green leaves and hit the bull’s-eye straight on the mark. The arrow reached the target.

Chunying frowned as congratulatory sounded.

Jiang Luo felt aggrieved, this question was unfair as she angrily squeezed the veil in her hand.

Jiang Changning subconsciously glanced at Qin Huaisu but saw that the old god was still there looking undisturbed.

Qin Huaisu raised his chin slightly to signal Gu Xiujing, “You come first.”

The outcome was decided, and Gu Xiujing’s expression was not very good, and he drew the bow persistently, one arrow, two arrows, three arrows.

Except for the first arrow which hit the target even though it didn’t touch the green leaves, the other two arrows missed the target due to lack of strength.

The young servant who was waiting on the side picked up the arrow that fell to the ground, as Qin Huaisu stood still at his spot.

[Elder brother! Do you want me to help you? Don’t miss this great opportunity! With me here, you can walk through every step and hit every shot! ] 886 jumped out and seized the opportunity to trick Qin Huaisu into binding with him.

Qin Huaisu turned a deaf ear and pulled the bow to the maximum, his sleeves were blown against his arms by the wind, his muscles were clearly defined. At this moment, the wind on the river was much stronger, rustling Qin Huaisu’s robe, but he remained motionless, aiming at the green leaves and the bull’s eye. An arrow was shot.

The wind was torn apart and the green leaf was driven down by force. His powerful shot managed to hit Shen Dong’s previous arrow, splitting it apart before piercing the target with much greater force.

Everyone at the scene was stunned for a moment. Chunying stepped forward to look at it with a steady mind, swept away the regret in her heart, and smiled on her face: “Congratulations to the lord for winning the two questions.” Then she personally brought the lantern and handed it to Qin Huaisu with both hands.
